The Swedish Transport Agency has appointed ÅF to develop tender documentation for design-and-build contracts, and deliver construction monitoring services for Hallsberg – Degerön, a part of the Bergslagen freight corridor, at an estimated value of 65 MSEK.

The Bergslagen freight corridor runs from Storvik via Hallsberg to Mjölby. It is one of Sweden’s most important railway stretches and mostly carries freight but also some passenger traffic.

The purpose of the double-track extension is to increase capacity, achieve high punctuality and improve safety along the line.

”We are delighted to help improve freight traffic in Bergslagen. We will develop tender documentation for design-and-build contracts, and also contribute with our expertise during the actual construction,” says Malin Frenning, Head of Division Infrastructure at ÅF.

The sections of Dunsjö-Jakobshyttan and Jakobshyttan–Degerön run through the counties of Örebro and Östergötland. In total, some 15 kilometres of railway, which will be extended with double tracks, a tunnel, new switches, signals and electrical systems. In addition, two road bridges and five railway bridges will be constructed.

The project is expected to run until December 2024 with an estimated budget of 65 MSEK.
