Earlier this year it was decided that a new ice arena will be built in Gränby, Uppsala, in the east of Sweden. On behalf of Sport- och rekreationsfastigheter AB, a company owned by the Uppsala Municipality, ÅF Pöyry will project plan the new arena, which is expected to open in 2023.

The new arena will be erected on Gränby sports field in Uppsala, and will primarily be used for ice hockey and ice skating.

ÅF Pöyry will contribute with project planning within the areas of HVAC, building construction, electricity/telecommunications, fire sprinkler systems as well as environment and sustainability.

“There’s been talks of a new arena for a long time in Uppsala, so it feels great that we are now able to be a part of, and contribute to, creating a really good and modern ice arena in Uppsala. The arena will contribute to the city’s attractiveness and quality of life,” says Krister Persson, Regional Manager Buildings North, ÅF Pöyry.

The arena in Gränby will be able to fit 5,000 spectators. It will function as an arena for elite ice hockey events. The new venue is designed by Metod Arkitekter together with Hille Melbye Arkitekter.

ÅF Pöyry will be a part of the project from 2019 to 2021, when construction is expected to commence. It is anticipated that the arena will be ready in 2023. The order value is just above SEK 32 million.
