ÅF wants to attract female engineers

ÅF takes a different approach to recruiting more female engineers. In October new employment contracts will only be signed with women.

The ÅF Group is an engineering and consulting company with about 8 000 employees, but as with many other technology companies, too few of them are female.

- “One of our challenges is to remain an attractive employer and secure the skills we need for the future,” says Nyamko Sabuni, Vice President of Sustainability at ÅF. “For that reason ÅF created the EVEN ODDS equality process, which includes Ladies’ Month, a month in which we only employ women.”

The 2014 Ladies’ Month campaign was a success and resulted in a 23 percent increase in female job applicants at ÅF during the year.

“Ladies' Month is an active measure we take to make more women engineers interested in ÅF,” says Emma Claesson, HR manager. “Research shows that heterogeneous groups generally achieve better results, and we are confident that greater equality and diversity is critical to our business.”

To reach the target of 30 percent female employees at all levels by 2020, ÅF also implements many long-term activities such as networking and mentoring programs and leadership training.
