ÅF Spain has signed two agreements together worth USD 1 million with the Inter-
American Development Bank, IDB, to assess the feasibility of electricity
exchange in the Andean region consisting of Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador
and Peru.
The assignments will result in concrete recommendations for sustainable
interconnection alternatives between these countries. ÅF together with its local
partner SIGLA will assess the best technical and economical options to connect
national networks together and provide principles and guidelines on how to
structure, harmonize and regulate the interconnection in an efficient and
sustainable manner. The work shall also consider a potential integration with
the Central American (SIEPAC) and other regional markets.
"This is an exciting and very welcome order. Our business in the region started
from the liberalisation of Latin American energy markets in the 1990s where we
served as a key expert, and now we see the full scope of ÅF offerings gaining
recognition in this dynamic and growing region," says Sami Kangasharju,
Executive Vice President, Energy Markets.
ÅF business in Latin America includes a range of engineering and consultancy
services for the nuclear, hydropower, network and power market sectors.
