AFRY accelerates transition towards sustainable society opting out of new build coal projects
The increasing demand for carbon-free energy requires concrete actions from all industry players. AFRY therefore takes action in the transition towards a clean energy future.
AFRY Press Release 26 November 2020 at 11:45am
With a strong focus on the future, the decarbonisation of the energy industry needs to play a key role. The reliance on fossil fuels, in particular coal power generation, needs to be reduced, and the availability and accessibility to more sustainable energy sources increased.
We are in a privileged position at AFRY to have experts in the renewable and alternative clean energy sectors, as well as leading European expertise in these fields. This allows us to support our clients to accelerate the transformation needed.
AFRY will therefore not take on any new build coal CAPEX-projects from January 2021. Instead we focus on supporting our clients to accelerate their own energy transition goals.
“The complexity of the energy transition requires industry leaders to use their knowledge and expertise to help accelerate progress towards clean energy. There is no silver bullet. It will require careful balancing of unique environmental, economic and social drivers, while recognising our diverse needs globally, working together on this shared journey towards a sustainable future”, says Richard Pinnock, Head of Energy Division.
AFRY will remain committed to our clients and will fulfil all current projects until completion, as well as discuss new and potential opportunities to support clients in their carbon off-set investment programs. For example, renewables, transitioning their existing plants from coal to biomass; provide efficiency improvement solutions, as well as supporting clients implement future carbon capture technologies.
The decision to exit from new build coal projects from January 2021 supports AFRY’s strategy and our goals within sustainability and the clean energy transition. We pride ourselves on providing leading solutions for generations to come and believe this is a step in the right direction in achieving this.
