AFRY and Ringhals AB, owned by Vattenfall, in a pilot project for new forms of collaborations
The nuclear power industry is entering a phase in which the specialised competencies need to be secured long term. This affects strategies for the provision of expertise, personnel and cooperation with suppliers. To address these issues, Ringhals AB, has chosen AFRY as their trusted partner to carry out a pilot project at their nuclear power plant to modernise the control equipment for the waste facility, where existing ways of working are reviewed and further developed.
With this pilot project, Vattenfall and AFRY are challenging existing ways of working with the aim of adding value by simplifying processes while maintaining the highest safety standards. This is known in the nuclear industry as the ‘Graded Approach’.
“We have chosen AFRY as our partner because of their long-standing experience and knowledge of the Ringhals power plant. They also have a proven track record, extensive and, in this specific case, very valuable experience from other industries, which makes this collaboration particularly important," says Ulf Karlsson, Deputy CEO of Ringhals.
AFRY's role in the project consists of both challenging current processes and developing new approaches as well as contributing with expertise to the project implementation in various technical fields. In addition to extensive nuclear expertise, AFRY brings experience and best practices from other sectors including the conventional industry. The project includes a dedicated team of experts specialising in different technology fields.
The experience and results from the pilot project will be evaluated and used for continued further development of the collaboration, and ultimately contribute to ensuring competence for the nuclear industry in the future.

The pilot project will run until 2024.
