AFRY awarded assignment for the new Helsingborg hospital in southern Sweden
Region Skåne, the authority responsible for healthcare and regional development in Skåne, will build a new hospital in Helsingborg, southern Sweden. AFRY has been awarded the role of lead design consultant for installations, civil works, and external water and sanitation. The project will create a modern, future-ready healthcare environment, with a strong focus on robustness and high operational reliability.
The new hospital area in Helsingborg is one of the largest hospital projects in Sweden in decades, and will include an emergency hospital including psychiatry, high-tech care, nursing units, and laboratory medicine.
AFRY’s assignment entails broad technical responsibility and covers services including ventilation, heating and plumbing, electrical and telecommunications installations, medical gases, as well as civil works and external water and sanitation systems. A key part of the assignment is to take overall responsibility for ensuring that the hospital’s technical systems work together efficiently and are designed to meet both current and future healthcare needs.
“We are proud to work with Region Skåne on this important project, which will strengthen healthcare capacity and quality in the region. Patient safety and robust and reliable infrastructure are central elements in the design, and this is where our extensive expertise in healthcare environments is fully applied. Working on complex projects like this, with clear benefits to the society, also contributes to the professional and personal development of our employees,” says Thomas Hoff, Head of Public & Commercial Places Sweden at AFRY.
The hospital is planned to become operational in the second half of the 2030s. The assignment is divided into three successive phases: concept design, detailed design and construction documents. AFRY has now been awarded the initial phase of the project, while the subsequent phases may be called off by Region Skåne as the project progresses.
The total potential contract value across all phases is estimated at approximately SEK 800 million over a period of around ten years.
