AFRY has provided ENGIE with project management activities for the construction of the Rampingallo and Porto Torres wind farms, located in Sicily and Sardinia respectively. The two wind power projects will make significant contributions to the decarbonisation efforts of the two Italian islands.

ENGIE, a global utility headquartered in France and one of the key players worldwide promoting low-carbon electricity generation, has developed two strategic wind farms in Italy, each with a power output of 30 MW. Both projects feature five cutting-edge turbines with a nominal power output of just under 6 MW each, making them among the largest onshore turbines ever built in Italy with an impressive hub height of 118 meters.

AFRY has been supporting ENGIE since the early stages of the projects, providing project management services during the construction phase. As a trusted technical partner, AFRY has specially been tasked with following the contract with the wind turbine generators’ supplier and liaising with other stakeholders to ensure the projects’ execution would adhere to international quality standards, the agreed timeline and budget.

The Rampingallo and Porto Torres projects have recently reached the take-over milestone, marking the start of the operational phase expected to last at least 25 years. The two wind farms will generate a cumulative annual output of 145 GWh and provide clean energy to an estimated 55,000 households each year.

"We are proud to have been the trusted partner for ENGIE in such important projects which represent a significant stride towards accelerating the energy transition in Italy. With a strong focus on sustainability, our team of wind experts has showcased unparalleled expertise and dedication, playing a crucial role in the successful execution of the two projects. We look forward to continued collaboration with ENGIE, confident that our collective efforts will pave the way for further advancements in clean energy solutions in the country and Southern Europe”, comments Alessio Giuffra, Managing Director, AFRY Italy.
