The area surrounding the central station of Sundsvall, in central Sweden, will be rebuilt to increase capacity. On behalf of the Swedish Transport Administration, AFRY will be responsible for developing a railway plan, basic design documents and tender documentation. The estimated order value is SEK 62 million.

The purpose of the reconstruction is to meet the increasing trend of transportation by rail of passengers and freight, and to increase capacity through more efficient and accessible train connections for travelers. This will improve transfer times between train departures, increase traffic safety for passengers and create more efficient freight management.

AFRY will provide basic design documents, tender documentation, license management and applications for construction contracts regarding the projects “Sundsvall accessibility – and travel centre” and “Double-track railway Kubikenborg-Sundsvall” as well as design a railway plan for the project “Double-track railway Kubikenborg-Sundsvall”. AFRY is also responsible for building site monitoring throughout the period of construction.

“We are really looking forward to continuing to be a part of the development in Sundsvall, and with this assignment we will further consolidate our strong local presence. It is thanks to AFRY’s size, experience from large infrastructure  projects and our understanding of this project’s complexity that the Swedish Transport Administration have entrusted us with it,” says Folke Sandberg, Regional Manager at AFRY.

The assignment is projected to last until 2028 and AFRY’s order value is estimated at SEK 62 million.
