AFRY will be designing another section of the future Czech high-speed rail (HSR) network. The company has been awarded a key contract for the design of the new construction of Vysočina I., one of the future busiest Czech railways.

AFRY has won a public procurement by the Czech Railway Manager, Správa železnic, to design a high-speed railway between the municipalities of Brno and Velká Bíteš. The contract also includes the environmental impact assessment, all supporting documents such as geological, hydrological and environmental surveys, as well as architectural and urban design of two railway stations.

Earlier this year, AFRY won a similar HSR contract in the Czech Republic.

“The repeated success confirms that the combination of a partnership approach, open communication and ESG principles that AFRY has been applying in the Czech Republic is the right direction to take," says Ivo Šimek, Country Manager for the Czech Republic and Slovakia at AFRY.

The Vysočina I. section is a part of the Prague-Brno HSR corridor which will become one of the busiest high-speed railways in the Czech Republic. According to Správa železnic, the corridor will reduce the travel time between the two Czech largest cities to less than one hour.

The 33 kilometres long section is a new double track high speed railway with the maximum train speed of 320 km/hour. Design of several connections to the conventional railway network and modifications of the related road infrastructure are also part of the newly awarded assignment.
