Busting the Top 3 Myths about Pet Insurance

As pet owners embark on their journey, one crucial question often arises: Should I invest in pet insurance? In an online survey conducted among pet owners in Ireland in November 2023, Agria delves into various topics, including the decisions surrounding insurance coverage for their beloved companions.

Agria Petinsure offers valuable insights on pet insurance, debunking myths and addressing affordability concerns based on recent survey findings. This can help pet owners to make informed decisions for their pets' well-being.

"Pet health insurance is expensive.” 31% dog owners and 29% cat owners found pet insurance expensive

The price of the insurance varies according to certain criteria, including the breed and age of the animal insured, but also according to the cover chosen by the owner. Type of insurance, excess, add-ons etc can impact the price of pet insurance.

“While the upfront cost of pet insurance may appear steep, it's important to consider the long-term peace of mind it can offer. For instance, the average surgery for a dog with a broken leg can amount to €3,000. However, pet insurance plans often begin at a modest monthly premium starting at just €10.63*. This investment not only covers emergency procedures but also ongoing chronic diseases that may require years of medication. With insurance in place, owners can rest assured that their pets will receive necessary veterinary care without bearing the burden of hefty expenses.”

"My pet is in good health; I don't need insurance". 25% dog owners and 30% cat owners found that their pets rarely needed medical attention

While some owners opt out of pet insurance due to their pet's current good health and infrequent vet visits, it's crucial to consider the evolving needs of aging pets. As pets grow older, the likelihood of more frequent vet visits rises. Agria Petinsure provides insurance coverage for dogs and cats of all ages, ensuring that your beloved companions receive the care they need throughout every stage of their lives.

"I prefer to put money aside just in case". 24% of dog owners and 23% of cat owners reported setting aside dedicated savings for their pets' health needs

Many dog and cat owners proactively prepare for their pets' health needs by setting aside a sum of money each month. While this approach aims to cover unexpected veterinary expenses, there's a significant risk that these savings may fall short, especially as pets age and require more frequent monitoring or treatment for chronic illnesses.
