Keep an eye out for potential Easter dangers for your pets

People across Ireland are gearing up for the Easter weekend with their families and pets. We at Agria Petinsure have some pet care ideas to help pet owners have a safe and enjoyable holiday party.

“Easter celebrations will take centre stage this weekend, and with our houses decked out in Easter decorations, delicious food, and everything else that comes with the festivities, it is vital to ensure that things do not pose a risk to our pets.” Bernard O’ Sullivan, Managing Director at Agria Petinsure Ireland.

Keep the decorations away

Remove the Easter egg and place them out of reach of curious noses and playful cats. Cats, unlike dogs, are rarely interested in the food at the Easter buffet; however, when exciting Easter items such as tangled threads, feathers, and other Easter decorations catch their eye, they become curious and playful.

Keep an eye out for chocolate, raisins, and grapes, as well as hazardous plants.

Most people are aware that chocolate is bad for dogs and cats, but grapes and raisins, which can cause severe kidney failure, are also bad. Keep plants out of cats' reach. They have the potential to cause major issues.

Create a safe haven for pets

Activate and stimulate the dog with suitable toys, exercise, and mental stimulation. It usually goes a long way to prevent it from inventing its own pranks when you turn your back. Cats, unlike dogs, prefer to hide when visitors arrive. As a result, provide a calm area for the cat to retreat to.

If you suspect your pet has consumed anything poisonous or hazardous, please contact your vet immediately.

Wishing you and your pet a safe and happy Easter!
