An increasing number of pet owners are opting to bring their furry companions along on vacation. The survey conducted by Agria Petinsure sheds light on the growing trend of traveling with pets and the safety measures pet owners, particularly dog owners, need to take to ensure their pets' well-being during car journeys.

The survey, which collected responses from a diverse range of 800 pet owners across Ireland, revealed that nearly three out of ten pet owners expressed their intention to bring their beloved dogs or cats on vacation with them. The study highlighted that the inclination to travel with pets is more common among dog owners.

Furthermore, the survey results indicated that over 50% of the respondents were well-informed about the legal requirements associated with ensuring the safety of dogs and cats during car travel. Pet owners exhibited a strong awareness of the necessary precautions and regulations necessary to safeguard their pets' well-being and maintain a secure environment while on the road.

The study also found that 69% of respondents who transport their pets in the car utilize either a cage or a harness. This responsible approach demonstrates pet owners' commitment to providing their beloved companions with the highest level of safety and security during travel. By utilizing these safety measures, pet owners can minimize the risk of accidents or injuries while maintaining a comfortable environment for their pets.

"We are pleased to see that pet owners are taking pet travel safety seriously," said Bernard O’ Sullivan, Managing Director at Agria Petinsure. "Pet owners are becoming increasingly aware of the precautions as well as legal requirements when travelling with a pet. They are taking necessary measures to ensure the well-being of their furry friends during car journeys."

Pet owners who are planning to take their pets on a vacation this summer, should invest in appropriate pet safety equipment, such as cages or harnesses, to provide a secure and enjoyable travel experience for their beloved companions. This also coincides with the legal requirement in Ireland for pets to be suitably restrained so that they distract the driver or injure themselves when you brake or stop.
