Report this content

Alpcot Agro AB has completed the harvest for 2010.  The total gross harvest for Alpcot Agro in 2010 amounted to about 98,900 tonnes in Russia and about 10,900 tonnes in Ukraine, excluding fodder crops.

  • The total harvested area was about 65,500 hectares in Russia and about 5,300 hectares in Ukraine.
  • As have been communicated earlier, yields have been negatively affected by the harsh winter and the extreme drought during the summer, especially in the Russian inland.
  • The average yield for winter wheat was about 1.70 tonnes per hectare in Russia, and 2.60 tonnes per hectare in Ukraine. In Ukraine, the yields have not been as affected by the drought as in Russia, e.g. the yield for corn reached 8.10 tonnes per hectare.
  • Alpcot Agro’s winter planting campaign has been completed according to plan. The company has planted about 38,000 hectares of winter wheat in the Russian inland, and about 4,400 hectares of winter wheat and 3,700 hectares of winter rape in Kaliningrad. In addition, the company has planted about 5,400 hectares of winter wheat and 1,000 hectares of winter rape in Ukraine. Hence, the total winter planted area amounts to 52,500 hectares.

Comment from the CEO Björn Lindström:
”Alpcot Agro has completed the 2010 harvest with a total crop production of about 110,000 tonnes. On one hand, the yields are in general disappointing, in particular in Russia, but they have to be seen in light of the historic drought in Russia this summer. On the other hand, the drought has created a tight domestic grain market in Russia. The tightness in the market will probably remain the next few years, which should result in favourable prices. The higher prices so far this autumn compensate to a great extent the lower yields.”
