Livestock update: Q1 2012
Alpcot Agro increases milk production by 37.4 percent in the first quarter 2012 compared to the same period last year.
Highlights for the period
During Q1 2012, the average milk production on the Company’s dairy farms amounted to 42.2 tons per day, an increase by 37.4 percent from 30.7 tons per day in Q1 2011.
The average production per cow grew from 425 liters per month during Q1 2011 to 542 liters per month during Q1 2012, a growth by 27.3 percent. In March 2012 in isolation the average production per cow reached 579 liters.
During Q1 2012, the livestock herd was reduced by in total 464 heads following the planned culling of less productive animals.
At 31 March 2012, the livestock herd amounted to 7,124 animals, whereof 2,537 milking cows, 3,030 heifers, 686 dry cows and 871 bulls and calves, compared to 6,139 animals whereof 2,218 milking cows, 2,571 heifers, 668 dry cows and 682 bulls and calves at the same date last year.
During Q1 2012, sales of livestock related produce amounted to RUB 79.3 million including VAT (about SEK 18.1 million), an increase by 62.3 percent compared to the same period 2011 and by 77.6 compared to last quarter 2011.

”I am very pleased with the improved productivity in Alpcot Agro’s livestock operations. We have increased the productivity overall by about 20 percent through improved genetics and a better structured feeding regime. Another important contributing factor is that the imported Holstein heifers have calved and are now entering production.
Today we are producing over 51 ton of milk/day in the holding, and the trend is positive. Several of our farms are top producers in the different regions where we are active. This proves that Alpcot Agro has a strong operational concept for livestock and we will continue to build upon this important part of our business."
