Ahlsell joins the Science Based Target initiative
As an important step in the sustainability work and with the aim of being a leading player in the climate transition, Ahlsell has committed to setting climate goals in line with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
SBTi is a global organization that enables companies to set ambitious emission reduction targets in line with the latest climate science. The organization focuses on getting companies around the world to halve their emissions by 2030 and achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
Through this commitment, Ahlsell will develop and report its targets. Ahlsell will develop both short-term targets by 2030 and a long-term net zero target by 2050 at the latest. By committing to a long-term net zero target, Ahlsell becomes part of UNFCCC’s Race to Zero campaign. Once approved, the new and more ambitious targets will replace Ahlsell’s existing climate targets.
Through its products and services, Ahlsell can have a positive impact on the industries it serves as the contribution to more climate-smart products and services increases over time. With the new targets, Ahlsell will accelerate its work to reduce emissions throughout the entire value chain, where the purchase of materials and services represents the largest share and challenge.
"Through its commitment to align Ahlsell with the 1.5°C target, Ahlsell has responded to the market’s urgent call for climate action within the industry. As a market leader, we need to be at the forefront of contributing to a more sustainable world, and I look forward to working together with all our companies and business partners to achieve this goal," says Claes Seldeby, President and CEO of Ahlsell.
SBTi is a collaboration between the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the UN Global Compact (UNGC), the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the Världsnaturfonde (WWF). More information about Science Based Targets can be found at https://sciencebasedtargets.org/.
