MUNKSJÖ OYJ, PRESS RELEASE, 1 December 2014 at 9.00 a.m. CET

Munksjö has announced today that the European Patent Organization (EPO) has granted patent EP 2539505 B1 related to the Company’s Acti-V® release papers and the method of manufacturing such papers. Patent protection has also been granted this year in the United States of America (US 8,871,342 B2) and in Australia (AU2011219669 B2) and the Company has pending patent applications in other countries worldwide.

Acti-V® supercalandered release papers for silicone coating are used as liners for Pressure Sensitive Adhesive (PSA) labelling, as well as for specialty tape and industrial applications. Thanks to Munksjö’s proprietary technology, Acti-V® plays an active role in the silicone curing and anchorage process. Silicone curing requires less catalyst (platinum) and energy. At the same time, silicone anchorage to the paper surface is stronger and more durable, even in challenging environmental conditions.

"Acti-V® is widely recognized in the PSA market, it is used on industrial coaters worldwide and it represents today the large majority of our release papers production. Receiving a patent for this technology is the last evidence of success for a product that has proven great reliability in addition to a high degree of innovation” says Daniele Borlatto, President Release Liners. “It also rewards the hard work of our development and manufacturing teams, which continue to strive to deliver high value to our customers”.

Acti-V® products are manufactured by Munksjö Release Liners Business Area, one of Munksjö’s four business areas and a global leading producer of release papers for the PSA industry, with manufacturing sites in Europe and South America. All of them are certified according to ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004, OHSAS 18001:2007, FSC® and PEFC™ Chain-of-Custody.

Acti-V is a registered trademark of Munksjö Oyj in the EU and the USA and either registered or pending in a number of other countries worldwide.
