Aberdeen trade mission urges stronger cross-border ties for North Sea industry

Representatives from 20 Norwegian oil industry suppliers and contractors have spent three days in the city, hosted by various operators and major contractors including Aker Kvaerner's Aberdeen-based units.

Organised by INTSOK - a partnership between the Norwegian government and the oil and gas industry - the trade mission delegates represented a range of specialist disciplines.

Aker Kvaerner Offshore Partner's Business Acquisition Manager, Lindsay Young, says the visit has the potential to boost trade on both sides of the North Sea: "The Norwegians were here to show us some specific niche technologies and applications, and to find out how we can help them. The common overall aim is to maximise field development, and extend the life of the industry. That's going to be more achievable by combining the expertise and facilities in the UK and Norway.

"The five Aker Kverner companies in Aberdeen have an immediate advantage in cross border cooperation because we already have sister companies in Norway. It has been estimated that better cross-border co-operation could lead to savings of around USD 2 billion, so it will be well worth the effort."

INSTOK's Special Advisor, Einar Holmefjord says the visit to Aberdeen was a success, and he plans to bring another group of companies to the city next year: "The UK still represents some 25% of the total international revenues for Norwegian based suppliers, and around half of these companies consider the UK to be their most important market.

"INTSOK feels confident that such Missions are important for companies to get access to the decision makers in Aberdeen, and also to get an update on available technology and experiences gained in various projects."

Aker Kvaerner Offshore Partner Ltd is one of five Aker Kvaerner companies with UK headquarters in Aberdeen. The others are: KOP Ltd, Aker Kvaerner Operations Ltd, Kvaerner Process Systems Ltd and Maritime Hydraulics UK Ltd.
