7 May 2007 - Aker Kvaerner will officially celebrate the expansion and state-of-the-art upgrade of its integrated subsea engineering and manufacturing facilities in Tranby, Norway on 10 May.  Aker Kvaerner invested NOK 65 million in 2006 and 2007 to develop the manufacturing operation into the world's most efficient subsea christmas tree manufacturing facility.

Work on the facility has now been completed, just 12 months after Aker Kvaerner announced the investment.  The new streamlined operations will increase Aker Kvaerner's ability to respond to customer needs with reduced lead times and more rapid execution.

"The investment demonstrates our commitment to grow our subsea business," says Raymond Carlsen, Executive Vice President, Aker Kvaerner Subsea. "Tranby's transformation will make it the world's most efficient subsea tree and pump manufacturing plant.  It gives us additional supply and testing flexibility across a range of products and services."

Aker Kvaerner will showcase the facility to customers, employees and students from local high schools from 10.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. on Thursday, 10 May. The programme includes a seminar on Aker Kvaerner's execution excellence in subsea trees and boosting and a grand opening ceremony.  There will also be guided tours of the plant and its engineering offices.

Aker Kvaerner Subsea at Tranby is a leading supplier of subsea trees and subsea boosting products. The incremental investment in new machining technology and a new subsea tree assembly line will expand subsea tree production capacity and increase manufacturing efficiency. The addition of a dedicated subsea pump assembly and testing facility will enable the company to grow within the emerging subsea boosting market.

Aker Kvaerner Subsea has another two facilities coming on line this year. The new North Sam Houston Parkway West aftermarket facility in Houston was officially opened on 25 April, while the new USD 100 million high technology manufacturing centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, will be launched early June.

"The scope and scale of our investments in manufacturing helps Aker Kvaerner maintain industry leadership, drive innovation and be at the forefront of health, safety and environmental care," says Martinus Brandal, CEO and president of Aker Kvaerner.

Approximately 600 people are based in the Tranby facility which supplies equipment for clients including Statoil, Total, BP, Murphy, Shell, Marathon and Norsk Hydro, among others. Aker Kvaerner Subsea has other manufacturing and testing facilities in Ågotnes and Moss, Norway; Curitiba, Brazil; Mobile and Houston, USA; Batam, Indonesia; Perth, Australia and Aberdeen, Scotland and in Malaysia.
