Aker Kvaerner contract for another major acid plant

JSC Kazakhmys Corporation, the world's 9th largest copper producer is committed to an environmental clean up of its Balkhash copper smelter reducing sulphur dioxide emissions by almost 2.5 million kg/per day.


JSC Kazakhmys selected Chemetics to supply the acid plant based on evaluated technical and commercial merits. Chemetics experience and reputation of offering first class sulphuric acid technology to the world's base metals producers, combined with reliable project execution helped to secure this contract and firmly establish its position as the world's leading acid plant contractor.


The new contract includes a 3850 metric tonnes per day, single train metallurgical sulphuric acid plant. The project will be managed from Chemetics' office in Vancouver, Canada, where it will also carry out the majority of the engineering.


JSC Kazakhmys is a vertically integrated copper producer operating several mines and concentrators throughout Kazakhstan plus two world scale smelters in Balkhash and Zhezkazgan, producing in excess of 400 thousand tonnes of copper cathodes annually.
