Aker Kvaerner delivers record breaking subsea technology to the Gulf of Mexico

14 June 2007 - Aker Kvaerner will ship three subsea MultiBooster pumps to the Gulf of Mexico today.  The installation in the King field will break world records when it is applied in water depths in excess of 1 700 metres, more than 29 kilometres from the platform. The contract was first announced by Aker Kvaerner on 4 October 2005.

"This represents a key milestone for Aker Kvaerner's award-winning processing and boosting technology," says Jarl Kosberg, Senior Vice President Trees / Processing and Boosting, Aker Kvaerner Subsea. "The installation of these pumps will extend the production lifetime of the field and increase the ultimate oil recovery for the operator".

Aker Kvaerner's MultiBooster subsea system increases oil production and recovery rates, extends the useful life of fields and enables longer step-out distances between subsea assets and host facilities by adding energy to the wellstream.

"We are extremely pleased to work with BP on this important project," continues Kosberg.  "This technology has been engineered and produced at Aker Kvaerner's subsea facility in Tranby, Norway. We are very proud to see the results of our development work and this is a major step forward for us."

The three MultiBooster pumps, weighing 57 tonnes each, are expected to reach the Gulf of Mexico beginning of July.
