Aker Kvaerner to modernise cooking plants at the Aracruz pulp mill

Report this content
26 June 2006 - Aker Kvaerner has signed a letter of intent with Aracruz for a modernisation of the cooking plants at the Aracruz Unidade Barra do Riacho pulp mill in Brazil - the world's largest pulp mill. The contract is worth approximately USD 16 million.

The modernisation of the cooking plants is part of an expansion project at the mill, which seeks to increase annual production to more than 2.3 million tonnes of pulp per year. The mill uses planted eucalyptus as raw material.

"This prestigious order from Aracruz confirms that our proprietary Compact Cooking(TM) method is recognized as leading-edge technology amongst pulp producers around the world. The order also fits well with our vision to be the number one productivity provider," says Per-Åke Färnstrand, President of Kvaerner Pulping.

Kvaerner Pulping, part of the Aker Kvaerner group, will provide engineering, procurement and construction services under the new contract. Start-up is scheduled for third quarter 2007.
