The original maintenance and modification contract was signed in December 1998 - for a duration of three years, and included seven options of two years each. This is the second option that Esso has exercised under this contract.

During the five years that have passed since the contract was entered with Esso, Aker Kvaerner Offshore Partner has carried out several large modifications for Esso. Among them is ongoing work related to the installation of VOC recovery facilities both on the Balder and Jotun A vessels and modifications both on Ringhorne and Jotun A in relation to the Ringhorne Jurassic project.

Even though most of the larger modifications are now in the finishing stages, some smaller modification work remains to be done.
