Aker Carbon Capture and Hitachi Zosen Inova (HZI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at accelerating carbon capture solutions in the waste to energy industry in Europe.

The agreement outlines the two companies’ ambition to combine Aker Carbon Capture’s patented and HSE-friendly CCS technology with HZI’s proven capabilities as a turnkey supplier of waste to energy plants.

“In recent years, the demand for carbon capture solutions has increased sharply on the agenda of many plant operators and key players in the waste to energy industry. Together with Aker Carbon Capture, we can develop a joint offering of truly integrated solutions for efficient and sustainable waste management, and thus accelerate the energy transition within the industry”, says Bruno-Frédéric Baudouin, Chief Executive Officer of Hitachi Zosen Inova.

Through the MoU, Aker Carbon Capture and Hitachi Zosen Inova have agreed to explore opportunities to develop a joint offering for HZI’s customers around in Europe. The two companies will jointly deploy their deep domain expertise to optimize the integration of carbon capture in both new and existing waste incinerators. There are more than 400 waste to energy plants in Europe.

“Working together with HZI has the potential to accelerate the implementation of carbon capture solutions in the waste incineration industry, reducing millions of tonnes of CO2,” says Valborg Lundegaard, Chief Executive Officer of Aker Carbon Capture. “The capabilities of HZ Inova and Aker Carbon Capture are complementary and together we will create a unique offering to waste to energy companies across Europe.”

The Memorandum of Understanding is non-exclusive and is valid for three years.
