Aker Carbon Capture to support Aker Solutions with technical advice related to CO\2\ handling in the Northern Lights project

Report this content

Aker Carbon Capture has signed an agreement to provide technical advice to Aker Solutions and the Northern Lights project related to CO2 handling in the transport and storage project.

Activities include support in process, design and Hazop (hazard and operability analysis) reviews as well as providing technical support on specific issues related to CO2 handling, such as process simulations, dynamic simulations, and process safety considerations.

“While Aker Carbon Capture remains a pure-play carbon capture company, we are pleased to support Aker Solutions and the Northern Lights project with technical expertise which our team of CO2 specialists have acquired over the past 15 years,” says Valborg Lundegaard, Chief Executive Officer of Aker Carbon Capture.

The Northern Lights project is part of the Norwegian full-scale carbon capture and storage (CCS) project “Langskip” (Longship), supported by the Norwegian government. The project will initially include capture of CO2 from Norwegian industrial capture sources. The Northern Lights project comprises transportation, receipt and permanent storage of CO2 in a reservoir in the northern North Sea. Aker Carbon Capture has secured a contract to provide a complete carbon capture plant for the HeidelbergCement Norcem cement plant in Brevik, Norway, which is part of Longship.
