Alfa Laval – a world leader in heat transfer, centrifugal separation and fluid handling – has received an order for equipment to produce high quality nutritional supplements containing Omega-3. The order value is about SEK 70 million. Delivery will take place during 2008.

“Today’s order is another example of the fantastic scope of the Alfa Laval Group”, says Lars Renström, President and CEO of Alfa Laval. “Recently we received a breakthrough order for our new product for cleaning of ballast water on board ships. Before that, several orders within energy related industry and now this order to the food industry for production of among other things popular lifestyle products”.
The nutritional supplement is produced from a shrimp-like crustacean living in the Antarctic region. The end product, after processing, is meal and oil containing high concentrations of Omega-3 fatty acids. Scientific studies have shown a number of positive health effects like reduced levels of blood fats and lowering of blood pressure as well as decreased risk of heart disease.
The systems ordered, that will be mounted on two ships, include several of Alfa Laval’s products and systems including spare parts.
