Alfa Laval goes from two selling divisions to three

Alfa Laval – a world leader in heat transfer, centrifugal separation and fluid handling – reorganizes the business and creates a new selling division – the Marine & Diesel Division. The new structure means that the marine, offshore and diesel businesses of Alfa Laval and Aalborg Industries are integrated with the aim to improve the presence and competitiveness and further strengthen the company’s position. Peter Leifland has been appointed head of the division.

“The new division will have a broad assortment of products with strong market positions, “said Peter Leifland. “Furthermore, the increase in seaborne trade contributes to creating a solid base for further growth.” At the same time, the business is diversified and not only dependant on the marine and offshore contracting levels. More than one third of the division’s order intake relates to the aftermarket and more than 10 percent can be associated with the land-based diesel power market. In addition, the new environmental applications make up for a growing portion. “Please remember that our environmental applications not solely rely on the development of new builds. There are also large opportunities in the retrofit market for existing ships,” said Peter Leifland.

The new structure will be reflected in the public financial reporting from the first quarter report 2012.

Alfa Laval’s selling divisions now include Equipment, Process Technology and Marine & Diesel. All new sales to the marine market and the market for land-based diesel power have been stripped out of the Equipment Division, as has the Parts & Service activities relating to these markets. Aalborg’s business within industrial boilers in Brazil, is integrated into the Process Technology Division.

The Marine & Diesel segments:

  • Marine & Offshore Systems
  • Marine & Diesel Equipment
  • Parts & Service.

Marine & Offshore Systems – global new sales of Alfa Laval Aalborg’s product range of boilers, inert gas systems, waste heat recovery units and floating production systems to marine and offshore customers.

Marine & Diesel Equipment – global new sales of Alfa Laval’s traditional product range as well as the Alfa Laval Aalborg waste heat recovery units to diesel customers.

Peter Leifland has been appointed to lead the new division. In his previous position, as head of the sales region Western Europe and North America, he will be replaced by Nish Patel, who also joins Alfa Laval’s group management.
