Alfa Laval in Russia has a favorable development in the oil & gas and power sectors. A huge demand for energy resources, as well as Alfa Laval’s good reputation with successful references, creates large potentials for the company within the energy sector. LUKOIL has a leading position in the Russian energy sector. About the project In 2005 LUKOIL began a complex reconstruction and modernization of the Nizhny Novgorod refinery. The project is aimed at implementation of cracking processes based on deep oil refinery. The system consists of among others units for gudron visbreaking, catalytic cracking, as well as fluorine-hydrogen alkylation and new infrastructure and plant facilities. The equipment from Alfa Laval will be a part in the gudron visbreaking unit in LUKOIL’s Nizhny Novgorod refinery. In the visbreaking process heavy fractions from the initial distillation processes in the refinery are thermally cracked to lighter fractions. These fractions are used as fuel oil or are processed further in the refinery into e.g. motor fuels. The gudron visbreaking unit is planned for start-up in 2007.
