Alfa Laval has received a SEK 45 million order for plate heat exchangers to a joint venture between BASF and The Dow Chemical Company. The equipment is to be used in a new petrochemical plant in Antwerp, Belgium. Delivery will take place during 2007.

The plant will produce propylene oxide which is used in e.g. manufacturing of polyurethanes, propylene glycol, chemical intermediates and textile surfactants. The plant in Antwerp will be the first in the world based on the HPPO* technology. The companies are looking into setting up additional plants in Asia and USA using this new technology. The plate heat exchangers form a part of the plant’s central cooling system where seawater provides cooling capacity to the plant by cooling fresh water in a closed loop. The fresh water is used as cooling media for the plant’s process equipment. About BASF and The Dow Chemical Company With 81000 employees on five continents and posted sales of €42.7 billion in 2005, BASF is the world’s largest chemical producer.
