Alfa Laval – a world leader in heat transfer, centrifugal separation and fluid handling – has received an order for decanter centrifuges to be used in the largest waste water treatment plant in the world. The order value is about SEK 250 million of which SEK 40 million was booked in June. Delivery is scheduled to be finalized during 2013.

The Alfa Laval decanter centrifuges will be used for thickening the sludge generated in the biological treatment process in a sewage treatment plant in Chicago. The plant is the largest in the world and serves around 2.5 million people.

“It is the largest order ever for Alfa Laval,” says Lars Renström, President and CEO of the Alfa Laval Group. “The increasing environmental awareness is driving the interest for our efficient waste water treatment solutions. This order shows our strong position in the water treatment market.”

Did you know that… Alfa Laval decanters and centrifuges, installed in waste water treatment plants around the world, treat waste water equal to the total amount of waste water produced in the whole of the US? Moreover, Alfa Laval has launched a new generation of decanters that reduce the energy consumption of up to 40 percent while increasing the sludge capacity by 10 percent.
