Alfa Laval – a world leader in heat transfer, centrifugal separation and fluid handling – has won an order for Alfa Laval plate heat exchangers, to be used for cooling duties by means of seawater, to the fast growing nuclear power industry in China. The order value is about SEK 50 million and delivery is scheduled for 2010.

“To meet China’s rapidly growing energy demand the government plans to increase its nuclear power generating capacity to at least 50 GWe by 2020, corresponding to some 40 new reactors,” says Lars Renström, President and CEO of the Alfa Laval Group. “During the last years we have received several orders connected to the nuclear power industry in China and I see this order as further evidence of our strong position in this market.”

Did you know that at the end of 2007, China’s installed (electric) power generating capacity rose to a record high of about 713 GWe, which is more than 20 times the capacity in Sweden. Close to 80 percent of the electricity was generated by fossil fuel and only 2 percent by nuclear power.
