Alfa Laval – a world leader in heat transfer, centrifugal separation and fluid handling – has received an order from Tata Chemicals for heat exchangers to be used in evaporation systems for production of salt in India. The order, worth about SEK 60 million, was booked late September. Delivery is scheduled for 2011.

The Alfa Laval heat exchangers will be used in evaporation systems to concentrate sea water brine for production of table salt and concentrated brine for caustic soda production. The freshwater generated during the evaporation process will be further used as process water.

“In the last year we have seen good development in India and this order confirms our strong position as a supplier to one of India’s biggest companies”, says Lars Renström, President and CEO of the Alfa Laval Group.

Tata Salt was launched in 1983 by Tata Chemicals as India's first packaged iodized salt and is today the leading salt brand in India. Tata Chemicals was the country’s first salt manufacturer to use the vacuum evaporation technology in this process.
