Alfa Laval in Japan has taken an order for the supply of plate heat exchangers to be used in a liquid natural gas (LNG) plant as part of the RasGas project in Qatar. The order is valued at around SEK 75 million and final delivery will be made in 2007.

In general the last few years has seen an upturn in the Japanese market for the company. A contributing factor to Alfa Laval’s success in Japan is an increase in contractor sales to the energy market on which Alfa Laval works in close cooperation with the Mitsubishi Corporation and other prestigious companies. During 2005, order intake in Japan grew by 40 percent. The growing demand is a result of stronger domestic investments and increased Japanese exports to China and other Asian countries. Earlier this year, Alfa Laval in Japan won its largest contract ever, valued at around SEK 80 million. The order was for heat transfer equipment to be used in the Middle Eastern LNG industry. About the order The order comprises of stainless steel process plate heat exchangers of different capacities. The heat exchangers will be used in the world’s two largest LNG trains. Each train is designed to produce 7.8 million tons annually (Mta). The first train will be ready by 2008 and the second one a year later. Both trains are part of a plan to make Qatar the leading supplier of LNG by 2010, with an expected annual production of 77 Mta. It is expected that RasGas will be the largest LNG export project to supply LNG to the U.S. market. Delivery of gas will begin in 2008/2009 and continue for 25 years.
