Alight accelerates 1 GW solar and storage build-out in Finland with acquisition of two large-scale projects from 3Flash
Alight is ramping up its portfolio with the acquisition of two solar projects in eastern Finland from Finnish developer 3Flash, totalling over 200 MW of planned solar capacity and additional battery storage. Alight’s large-scale solar and storage development pipeline in Finland now exceeds 1 GW.
Both projects, one of about 75 MW and one of around 150 MW, are located in eastern Finland, a region with relatively low existing local power generation and lower grid congestion compared to other parts of the country. Alight and 3Flash will co-develop both projects until they reach the phase of ready-to-build.
The 75 MW project targets grid connection around 2028 and benefits from a nearby grid connection to the Finnish transmission system operator Fingrid. The site also has a building permit for a 30 MW battery energy storage system (BESS).
The 150 MW project is planned to connect to the grid via a planned Fingrid substation expansion expected around 2030, creating an efficient and cost-effective grid connection.
“By adding local solar and storage, we strengthen energy self-sufficiency and increase grid resilience in eastern Finland. With its strong solar conditions and available grid capacity, the region is an ideal location for new large-scale projects,” says Warren Campbell, CEO at Alight.

The new projects build on Alight and 3Flash’s existing collaboration in Loviisa, southern Finland, where the partners are co-developing a large-scale solar park of about 120 MW together with a co-located 45 MW BESS. The Loviisa project recently received a multi-million-euro grant from the European Commission’s Innovation Fund and is designed with a strong focus on agrivoltaics, integrating solar power production with agricultural land use through AI-optimised tracking technology.
“We are very pleased to expand our cooperation with Alight through these projects. Together we are accelerating the build-out of grid-friendly solar and storage solutions in Finland”, says Miko Huomo, CEO, 3Flash.
Alight’s pipeline of large-scale solar parks under development in Finland includes projects at various stages, from early development to construction readiness, across multiple regions. This summer, Alight will commission its first solar park in the country, a 100 MW project in Eurajoki, marking a key milestone in the company’s Finnish build-out.
The solar projects are made possible through long term power purchase agreements (PPAs), under which Alight construct, own and operate the solar facilities. Through the PPA, industrial offtakers commits to buying the electricity at a stable, low price, enabling both the addition of renewable capacity to the grid and predictable energy costs for the buyer.

About Alight
At Alight, we’re on a mission to kick carbon off the grid by helping energy-intensive businesses switch to solar. We develop, own and operate onsite and offsite solar projects across Europe and sell the clean energy to businesses at a low, fixed cost backed by a power purchase agreement (PPA), always independent of government funding or subsidies. By 2030, we aim to have an installed capacity of at least 5 GW, paving the way for a more sustainable future.
