Alight acquires solar assets from Vattenfall
Alight furthers its leadership in the PPA market by acquiring 15 renewable as-a-service energy assets in Sweden, of which 5 are solar installations with a capacity of approximately 0,5 MW.
Vattenfall, one of Europe’s largest producers and retailers of electricity and heat, is divesting its mid-size solar segment in Sweden to Alight. With the acquisition, Alight adds 15 renewable energy assets to its existing portfolio of 50 assets, to further grow and diversify its portfolio, strengthening Alight’s leadership position in solar-as-a-service in Sweden. The new assets are a mix of solar and energy efficiency installations, located in Sweden, with a total expected annual production of over 10,000 MWh.
“We are delighted to expand our portfolio of renewable energy assets through this acquisition. With our focus on mid-size assets, Alight is a logical partner to facilitate the strategic repositioning of Vattenfall, ensuring a top customer experience for the solar-as-a-service customers and continued secure production of green MWh for the long term. We hope this is the beginning of a rewarding business relationship”, says Harald Överholm, CEO of Alight.
“We are very pleased to divest to Alight and are confident that they will take care of our customers in the best way towards a fossil free future. This is a strategic shift for Vattenfall Heat Sweden, we will now elevate our focus on district heating, cooling and steam, as well as large-scale energy solutions for industries and districts. Vattenfall will continue with its large-scale solar business and decentralised energy generation offerings, such as solar for roofs,” says Kurosh Beradari, Sales Director, Vattenfall Heat Sweden.
The 15 installations are servicing housing associations and business units with renewable heat and electricity at a fixed price, offering the customers a hedge against the volatile energy prices. The assets have been operational for between one and three years. Alight takes over the asset management in June, although there will be a transition period where Vattenfall will still provide support as well.
Alight will be responsible for asset management, optimizing the production and supervising its operations.

About Alight
At Alight, we’re on a mission to kick carbon off the grid by helping energy-intensive businesses switch to solar. We develop, own and operate onsite and offsite solar projects across Europe and sell the clean energy to businesses at a low, fixed cost backed by a power purchase agreement (PPA), always independent of government funding or subsidies. By 2030, we aim to have an installed capacity of at least 5 GW, paving the way for a more sustainable future.
