Don’t get worn out this summer holiday!

As millions of families prepare for the big summer holiday get away, the wheel alignment advice portal, AlignMyCar, is advising drivers to have their wheel alignment checked before heading off. By doing so, not only will it ensure the car’s tyres are safe and legal, but it could also help significantly cut drivers’ running costs by making their tyres, and even their fuel, last longer!

“During the summer, many families significantly increase their miles on the road as they head out for day trips or even further afield for extended breaks,” explains Kathryn Beaurain from AlignMyCar. “As the miles rack up, unless the wheels are correctly aligned, tyre wear is likely to be greater, more rapid or uneven, meaning they will be worn out and need replacing much sooner. With motoring costs at possibly an all-time high, this is certainly an added expense that most drivers could do without!”

When carried out properly, a wheel alignment check will not only ensure that tyre life is maximised, but it will also act as a basic health check of the car’s wheel, tyre and suspension system. Through the pre-alignment check, workshops should ensure that the tyres are in a safe and legal state, tyres are set to the correct pressure and that none of the suspension and steering components are suffering from excessive wear or damage.

Then, during the alignment check itself, the car’s geometry settings will be restored to those specified by the car manufacturer, ensuring the best levels of handling and longest possible tyre life.
