Allegro Networks Sets up in Manchester

23 May 2013

A new national network provider, Allegro Networks (Allegro.net) has set up offices in the North West of England. Describing itself as ‘a New Generation of Carrier’, Allegro will deliver the quality, security and capacity associated with large operators but with the flexibility, simplicity and customer-focused approach of smaller providers.

Targeting ISPs, integrators, content providers and other SPs, Allegro will offer exceptional SLAs to companies that require an always-on network.   Once a provider is connected onto Allegro’s network they can quickly and efficiently upgrade their capacity, extend their reach or break out at anyone of its datacentres.

The company currently has a 1500km optical and Ethernet network, enabling it to offer 10, 40 and 100Gbit wavelength services, along with metro services in London & Manchester, IP Transit, point to point and point to multi-point connectivity. Plans for the near future include upgrading the national Ethernet network which will result in a whole range of new services being launched in early Autumn. To coincide with this, development work has begun on some provisioning tools and network monitoring services that will deliver speed and visibility that are not currently available in the wholesale market.

Overseeing the company’s technical strategy is Chief Technology Officer Andy Davidson. Davidson, who is the chair of IX Leeds and LONAP, and an expert in peering and interconnection technologies, commented: “The technical solutions we are currently developing are incredibly exciting. They will deliver tangible, commercial benefits to providers and will undoubtedly set Allegro apart in the industry”.

Allegro Networks was established by a number of businessmen from the North West who, along with investment from Internet Service Provider Ask4 purchased the assets of NWIX networks last November. Included in the acquisition was Manchester Internet Exchange, Edge-IX. At the LINX Manchester event on 23rdApril Allegro announced it would be facilitating an interconnection to IX Manchester, along with other internet exchange points in the UK, allowing Edge-IX members to peer with all peering networks in the UK. This decision has been welcomed by the digital community in Manchester.
