Allgon introduces next generation antenna Allgon Mobile Communications introduces the Digitally Controlled Antenna (DCA). This is the next generation's antenna solution, which gives superior transmission quality and is a true enabler for the Mobile Internet. The DCA solution combines the deep antenna knowledge of Allgon Mobile Communications with state-of-the-art integrated circuit technology, overcoming present and expected antenna limitations, says Björn Berndtsson, President Allgon Mobile Communications. DCA gives superior transmission quality. By using the new MEMS (Micro Electro-Mechanical Switch) technology, the transmission losses are drastically reduced. Reduced losses and increased efficiency give longer talk time and less heat generation in the wireless terminal, e.g. mobile telephones. A key feature of the DCA is the use of state-of-the-art switching technology to optimize the antenna for multiband operation (e.g. GSM 900/1800/1900) and to improve the transmission capacity. Future wireless terminals will integrate more of the radio function into the DSP, so called software radio, but some non-digital parts will still be needed. A key feature of Allgon's new DCA concept is that these parts can be integrated with the antenna solution. This will greatly simplify the logistics within the terminal manufacturing process, says Björn Berndtsson. A number of patents are currently being filed around the DCA concept.
