HOOVERSVILLE, Pa. – September 13, 2011 – New Alliance AutoGas partner Shaffer’s Bottled Gas joins fellow Pennsylvania propane retailer Koppys Propane, Inc. to power statewide fleets on clean-burning, cost-effective propane autogas. The expanding Alliance AutoGas fueling network in Pennsylvania will allow more regional fleets to save money and drive clean on American-made fuel.

“We are delighted to partner with Alliance AutoGas to help achieve our goal of supplying customers with an economical alternative to gasoline, while also diminishing demand for imported oil,” says Jeff Shaffer, president of Shaffer’s Bottled Gas. “In these tough economic times, autogas is not only a smart fuel choice for saving money, but because it’s 90 percent domestically produced, using autogas also creates American jobs.”

Proving the propane business isn’t just about heating, Shaffer’s is adding autogas vehicle fuel to their service offerings after providing clean energy for local homes and businesses for decades. The Shaffer family has conducted business in Pennsylvania for 110 years, beginning as a hardware company in 1901, marketing propane by 1939, and then founding Shaffer’s Bottled Gas in 1965. Now, through the Alliance AutoGas complete program, Shaffer’s will also help area fleets shift to autogas, the most popular alternative fuel in the world.

“Expanding the U.S. propane autogas market is critical to our nation’s clean energy future,” says Stuart Weidie, president of Alliance AutoGas and founder of Autogas for America. “Companies like new Alliance partner Shaffer’s are doing their part to help make autogas a viable alternative fuel choice for more American fleets.”

Autogas costs $1 per gallon less than gasoline and produces significantly less greenhouse gas emissions. Getting fleets up and running on autogas is much more affordable compared to other clean fuels, including the cost of installing fueling stations, vehicle conversions or even the purchase of OEM vehicles. Alliance AutoGas will also install on-site autogas fueling stations for fleets at no up-front cost.
