AMERICAN TRAVELERS DEEM NEW YORK CITY AND CANCUN TOP HOLIDAY VACATION DESTINATIONS
Allianz Global Assistance Shares the Most Popular Christmas Destinations From its 2017 Top 10 Holiday Destinations Report
New York City and Cancun are the most popular domestic and international Christmas destinations for American travelers this year, according to travel insurance provider Allianz Global Assistance’s 2017 Top 10 Holiday Destinations Report.
Allianz Global Assistance reviewed more than 2.7 million travel plans* surrounding Christmas and found the top domestic destinations following New York City are: Orlando, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Fort Lauderdale, Seattle, Denver, Minneapolis, Salt Lake City and Boston.
Most Americans traveling internationally this December are in search of tropical getaways, with cooler-weather locales taking up only two of the top ten slots – London, ranked second, and Paris, ranked eighth. Also in the list are San Jose Del Cabo and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Higuey, Dominican Republic; Montego Bay, Jamaica; Paris, France; San Jose, Costa Rica and Aruba.
“Between crowded airports, weather-related delays and unexpected illnesses that could cancel a trip, the holidays can be more stressful than cheerful for many travelers,” said Daniel Durazo, director of communications for Allianz Global Assistance USA. “With the right travel insurance policy, Americans visiting domestic or international locations this holiday season can travel confidently knowing they’re covered in case of medical emergencies, significant delays or other travel mishaps, allowing them to concentrate on enjoying time with their family and friends.”
In addition to having travel insurance, Allianz Global Assistance recommends following these tips when traveling over the holidays and year-round:
- Download Allianz’s new TravelSmart App** to quickly access assistance, file and track claims, check flight status in real time, translate first aid/medical terms and more.
- When possible, avoid traveling on the busiest travel dates. Most Americans will be traveling domestically on December 22 and 23, with most returning December 27. International travelers are likeliest to depart on December 23 and return on December 30.
- Wash hands and carry anti-bacterial hand gel to prevent sickness while traveling.
- When traveling internationally, make sure to have copies of passport and keep them in the safe at the hotel.
“It’s important to be aware of your surroundings when traveling. I recommend following safety warnings in the area and keeping your personal items close to you at all times,” says Kim Seay, director of assistance for Allianz Global Assistance. “It’s especially important to stay alert while drinking. Ordering canned or bottled beverages, drinking in moderation and not accepting drinks from strangers are reasonable ways to stay as safe as possible, particularly from the risk of tainted alcohol, while traveling this holiday season.”
