Allianz Travel Insurance Reveals Mexico as the Most Popular International Destination for all types of Spring Break Vacations

According to Allianz Global Assistance, a leading travel insurance* provider, travelers – including students, families, and couples – seeking an international vacation experience this spring break are most likely to travel to Mexico.  

Allianz Global Assistance reviewed more than one million trips from late February to early April and determined that based on airport arrivals, travel to Mexico accounted for 30% of international trips, greatly surpassing the second place spot, Puerto Rico with nearly 10% of travel. Other international destinations ranking in the top 10 were Dominican Republic, Bahamas, Costa Rica, Canada, Jamaica, Aruba, Netherlands Antilles and Turks and Caicos. The top three domestic destinations for all types of spring break vacations were Orlando, Fort Lauderdale and New York.

“Mexico is the ultimate spring break destination, especially with so much to offer for all types of travelers, like great beaches and coastlines, delicious food and culture,” said Joe Mason, chief marketing officer at Allianz Global Assistance USA. “But no matter where travelers are headed for Spring Break, it’s important to remain vigilant and protect yourself with travel insurance that provides 24/7 access to travel assistance services should something unexpected occur.”

  • Go on a learning spree.   • Don’t broadcast on social media that you’re away.  According to research, over 1/3 of social media users post status information regarding travel plans. Letting the world know that you’re not home makes you a prime target to potential criminals.
