UP TO 40% OF EMPLOYEES CONSIDER BETTER-PAID JOBS AND 58% DO NOT WANT TO RECOMMEND THEIR EMPLOYERS REVEALS AN INTERNATIONAL SURVEY
Alma Media's international business segment focused on recruitment services, Alma Career, coordinated an international wage satisfaction survey, which had more than 61,000 participants from Eastern Central European countries. According to the survey, only about a quarter of employees are satisfied with their pay and as many as 58 per cent would not recommend their own employers.
According to the survey, only about one in four (27%) are satisfied or completely satisfied with their current salary. A significant proportion of respondents (32%) reported being dissatisfied with their income, with 41% having a neutral view. The survey also found that more than half of respondents (53%) felt that they were undervalued based on their salary, and only 1% considered themselves overvalued. 26% of participants thought their current salary was reasonable.
When participants were asked the level of pay, they would be satisfied with, a significant proportion of respondents (33%) indicated that they would be satisfied with an 11%–20% pay increase. Another third (31%) wanted an increase between 20% and 50%, and 13% indicated that a 6–10% increase would be sufficient. In addition, five per cent of participants hoped their current salary would double. Lower-income respondents hoped for bigger pay increases.
Do employees recommend their employer to others?
A significant proportion, 58%, of respondents would not recommend their own employer; only 17% would be willing to actively recommend their employer. The reluctance to recommend one's own employer was highlighted in lower-paid respondents. The Employee-Referral Index, the Net Promoter Score (NPS) figure, was obtained by asking respondents how likely they were to recommend their employer as a job for family or friends.
The poll confirms that dissatisfaction with pay is correlated with a desire to change jobs. 40% of respondents dissatisfied with their pay said they would like to change jobs in the next 6 months. In addition, 39% of respondents were unsure whether to stay in their current job or switch to a new one. 21% said they would stay in their current job. The desire to change jobs was highlighted in lower-paid respondents.
The survey results reflect the importance of pay in engaging with the employer. In the current labor market situation, the demand for labor often exceeds the availability of labor, so organisations should consider ensuring the competitiveness of pay and reward. Employer image and peer recommendations also play a significant role when applying for jobs and choosing an employer.
The survey was conducted in 12 Alma Career countries: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Poland, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Finland, Czech Republic and Estonia. In addition, data were collected from Hungary, where Alma Career works with partners. Alma Career operates in Finland under the Jobly brand. In Finland, 200 respondents participated in the survey.
