ABS Hosts 10th Hellenic Technical Committee Meeting

Greek shipping industry leaders recently gathered in Athens to discuss important developments ranging from the journey to net-zero emissions to propulsion systems optimization, during the 10th ABS Hellenic Technical Committee meeting.

During the meeting, attendees learned about the status of alternative fuels, an actual onboard carbon capture storage project, powertrain vibrations and powertrain shaftlines in Ice Class vessels. The meeting also featured an update from ABS Regulatory Affairs on the latest International Maritime Organization (IMO) requirements.

“Since the first ABS Hellenic Technical Committee convened, we have been fortunate to discuss a variety of technical issues ranging from complex systems presentations to regulatory aspects to new technologies and innovation projects,” said Dr. Elias Kariambas, ABS Vice President, Regional Business Development.

Among the distinguished speakers at the meeting were:

  • Dr. Andreas Thalhammer, Geislinger Manager, TVC and Digital Development
  • Mr. George Koutsoumpas, ABS Engineer
  • Mr. Stamatis Fradelos, ABS Vice President, Regulatory Affairs

Dr. Chris Leontopoulos, ABS Committee Chair and Vice President, Global Ship Systems Center, thanked the attendees for their participation and highlighted the essential role of the feedback received from the committee meetings and the committee’s technical polls. Remarks made during the event will contribute to proposed rules changes.
