Chicago, Ill.  (November 18, 2010) – The future is looking a little greener for the Sonne (pronounced Sunny) residence just outside of Chicago, Illinois.  That’s because Tisha Sonne, a local teacher’s assistant and mother of two, recently received a $25,000 Lowes gift card from American Home Shield to help give her home an energy efficient makeover as the official winner of its “Make a Splash” sweepstakes.  The giveaway is part of the Live Green Save Green campaign launched by American Home Shield to raise awareness about making environmentally conscious choices in the home.

“I couldn’t believe it! I was at school when I got the email telling me that I’d won. I had to ask another teacher to read it to me again, because I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was amazing!” said Tisha. “Once we got the paperwork in order, it started sinking in for my husband and me – and that’s when I got really excited about what this would allow us to do.”

“Everyone has a ‘wish list’ for their home, but we started making a list and setting priorities.  Even though our home is only 14 years old, there are a lot of new things out today that weren’t available then, and they’re things that can save energy and money in the long run. “

While the Sonne’s plans are far from final, Tisha says things like more energy-efficient doors and windows are at the top of their list. The family is also looking in a new tankless water heater, a dryer that uses less gas and new ways to be more conservative with water usage in their master bathroom.

“We’re just very grateful for this opportunity and excited about the change it will make,” she remarked.

Gary Domke, director of marketing for American Home Shield, says that the sweepstakes was a great way to involve consumers in the Live Green Save Green campaign and to spread the word about practical ways to promote energy conservation in homes.

“We heard from people across the nation, and found that not only were they eager to share their own stories about how they’re making a difference, but they enjoyed connecting with others who want to make environmentally friendly choices in their homes and day-to-day living,” said Domke. “American Home Shield has served homeowners for nearly 40 years, and we’re looking forward to keeping the Live Green Save Green conversation going strong with homeowners across the country.”

The American Home Shield “Make a Splash” Sweepstakes drew more than 200,000 entries from July 1 through August 31.
