Anchorage Health Care Leader Receives AMA’s Medical Executive Lifetime Achievement Award
CHICAGO - Nov. 12, 2012 - The American Medical Association (AMA) presented James L. Jordan, former executive director of the Alaska State Medical Association (ASMA), with its 2012 Medical Executive Lifetime Achievement Award today at the organization’s semi-annual policy-making meeting. Mr. Jordan retired from ASMA on July 1, 2012.
“We are pleased to present Mr. Jordan with this award in recognition of his outstanding work advocating for the physicians and patients of Alaska,” said AMA Board Chair, Steven J. Stack, M.D. “His experience, knowledge and enthusiasm have helped Alaskan physicians excel and patients thrive.”
In Alaska, Mr. Jordan was instrumental in the implementation of medical professional liability reforms, and was involved in the enactment of a Patients’ Bill of Rights, the Physician Joint Negotiation Law and the Prompt Pay Law. Mr. Jordan served on many state wide committees, commissions and boards, including being one of the founders of the Alaska Electronic Health Record Alliance.
Mr. Jordan served as a member and chair of the Litigation Center of the AMA and State Medical Societies. He was also a member of the board of directors for the Medical Underwriters of California and the Medical Indemnity Corporation of Alaska. Prior to serving as executive director of ASMA, Mr. Jordan served as the director of the Alaska division of Insurance, operated his own insurance litigation support consulting firm and worked in the private health insurance industry where he primarily developed group health insurance products.
Mr. Jordan received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn.
