AMA Annual Meeting will Convene on June 15
Nation’s physicians gather to lead discussion on emerging medical and public health issues

The American Medical Association (AMA) will gather physician and medical student leaders from all corners of medicine in Chicago to discuss cutting edge health care innovations, hear some of the nation's foremost health care thought leaders and shape the health care agenda of the nation’s largest physician organization.

The AMA’s House of Delegates is the policy-making body at the center of American medicine, bringing together an inclusive group of physicians, medical students and residents representing every state and medical field. The AMA uses a democratic process to create a national physician consensus on emerging issues in public health, science, ethics, business and government to continually provide safer, higher-quality, and more efficient care for patients.

Physicians and medical students will present healthy lifestyle choices and inspire Chicago students to consider a career in health care.

Next Generation Physician Payment and Delivery Models
1 pm (CT) in Crystal Ballroom A at the Hyatt Regency Chicago
During the first business meeting of the new Integrated Physician Practice Section, an overview will be presented of the AMA’s initial work on enhancing physician satisfaction and practice sustainability, a key part of our new strategic plan focused shaping delivery and payment models.

Innovations in Medicine
4 to 5:30 pm (CT) in the Riverside East Exhibit Hall at the Hyatt Regency Chicago

AMA Announces Grant Awardees to Launch Innovations in Medical Education

The AMA will announce which of the proposals to transform medical education submitted by more than 80 percent of the nation's medical schools have been selected as part of the AMA's multi-million dollar Accelerating Change in Medical Education initiative.

The Aging Physician: Opportunities and Challenges
Noon (CT) in Crystal A Ballroom at the Hyatt Regency Chicago
The AMA Senior Physician Section is sponsoring this educational program that will focus on understanding impairment in older physicians and examine what role the AMA should play in determining competency measurements in an aging workforce.

Opening Session of the AMA House of Delegates
2 pm (CT) in the Grand Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Chicago

The AMA’s primary policy-making body convenes its Annual Meeting. Keynote speakers include AMA CEO James Madara, M.D. and AMA President Jeremy A. Lazarus, M.D.

Monday, June 17

National Diabetes Prevention Program
8 am (CT) in Columbus K-L of the Hyatt Regency Chicago
As part of the AMA’s initial efforts to improve health outcomes, the AMA will outline its support for a collaborative diabetes prevention strategy led by the CDC and implemented with the help of the YMCA. This educational session will examine the National Diabetes Prevention Program, describe improvements in health outcomes, and discuss the importance of community-based resources to support clinical interventions for patients with pre-diabetes.

2013 National Health Insurance Report Card

9 am (CT) in Regency Ballroom A of the Hyatt Regency Chicago
The AMA will announce results from its sixth annual National Health Insurer Report Card and introduce the new Administrative Burden Index. Together, these tools measure the claims processing performance of the nation’s largest health insurers in terms of timeliness, transparency and accuracy.

Public Transparency Reporting of Industry-Physician Financial Interaction
10 am (CT) in Regency Ballroom A of the Hyatt Regency Chicago
The AMA is offering an overview of a new reporting requirement for industry on their financial interactions with physicians and teaching hospitals. This educational session will provide information on the reporting requirement of the Sunshine Act that starts on August 1, 2013. Physicians will be offered a preparation check list, resources, and an opportunity to learn how the reporting requirement will be implemented. Shantanu Agrawal, M.D., from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, is among the scheduled speakers.

Tuesday, June 18

Inauguration of the 168th AMA President
5 pm (CT) in the Crystal Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Chicago
Ardis Dee Hoven, M.D., an internal medicine and infectious disease specialist in Lexington, Ky., will accept the AMA's highest elected office and present her inaugural address to a gathering of the nation’s physician leaders.
