UC Davis Medical Student Elected to AMA Board of Trustees

CHICAGO – Ryan Ribeira, a medical student at UC Davis School of Medicine in Sacramento, Calif., today became a member of the Board of Trustees of the American Medical Association (AMA), the nation’s largest physician organization. Mr. Riberia was installed as a trustee at the AMA’s Annual Meeting.

“At a time when the AMA has committed to accelerating change in medical education as part of its strategic plan, it is an honor to represent medical students as the student member of the AMA Board of Trustees,” said Mr. Riberia. “I look forward to advocating issues important to medical students – our nation’s future physicians – as the AMA continues its work to improve American health care.”

Mr. Ribeira will complete his medical degree from UC Davis School of Medicine in 2014, the same year in which he will also earn his MPH from Harvard School of Public Health with a dual concentration in healthcare policy and management and public health leadership. He was elected by his fellow medical students to serve a one-year term on the AMA Board of Trustees.

Mr. Ribeira previously served as a member of the California Medical Association’s Board of Trustees and currently serves on the CALPAC Board of Directors. He has done extensive policy work and research for various programs including the AMA Medical Student Section, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and the Ghanaian Ministry of Health.

Ryan Ribeira graduated in 2008 from Brigham Young University with a Bachelors of Science degree in business management and nutritional science. He currently resides in Sacramento, Calif., with his wife and two young children.
