More than $1 Million in Prize Money Up for Grabs
LAKE SAINT LOUIS, MO (Aug. 15, 2012) — The APA National Pool Championships are set to begin Thursday, Aug. 16 at the Riviera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The world’s largest pool tournament, as recognized by Guinness World Records, is expecting nearly 15,000 poolplayers and fans.
Nearly 250 pool tables have been brought in to accommodate the 10 day billiard extravaganza.
“We’re very proud to host the best pool tournament and we’re excited to get this year’s event underway,” said Jason Bowman, APA Marketing & PR Manager.
Billiard superstar and “ESPN” Sexiest Female athlete “The Black Widow” Jeanette Lee will also be attending this year’s event to take on challengers and sign autographs.
The general public is welcome to check out the tournament action that runs through Aug. 25 and is free to attend.
The APA, based in Lake Saint Louis, Mo., sanctions the world’s largest amateur pool league, known as the APA Pool League throughout the United States, and as the Canadian Pool League in Canada. Nearly 270,000 members compete in weekly 8-Ball and 9‑Ball League play. The APA is generally recognized as the Governing Body of Amateur Pool, having established the official rules, championships, formats and handicap systems for the sport of amateur billiards.
The APA produces three major tournaments each year—the APA National Team Championships, the APA National Singles Championships and the U.S. Amateur Championship—that, together, pay out nearly $1.5 Million in cash and prizes annually!
The APA and its championships are sponsored by Aramith, Action Cues and PoolDawg.
