2015 Dr. Horace Furumoto Innovations Young Investigator Award Winner Announced

Jared Jagdeo, M.D., M.S., is the recipient of the 2015 ASLMS Dr. Horace Furumoto Innovations Young Investigator Award. 

The recipient of the 2015 ASLMS Dr. Horace Furumoto Innovations Young Investigator Award is Jared Jagdeo, M.D., M.S.. Dr. Jagdeo is currently a physician-scientist with a joint-faculty appointment at the University Of California Davis Department Of Dermatology and at the Sacramento VA Medical Center Dermatology Service. Dr. Jagdeo also holds an adjunct faculty appointment at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center Department of Dermatology.

“It is a tremendous honor to be awarded the Dr. Horace Furumoto Innovations Young Investigator Award for 2015.  I am inspired by Dr. Furumoto's accomplishments as a translational researcher and share Dr. Furumoto's love of testing new ideas pertaining to lasers, light and energy based technologies to enhance patient care,” said Jagdeo.  

“This award is a testament to the wonderful mentors, teachers, ab members, collaborators, resident physicians, medical students, family, and friends that continue to support my career as a physician-scientist, and provide stimulating feedback and guidance necessary to grow as a clinician and researcher. My personal approach to pioneering is to find a "eureka" moment within each patient or lab experiment, seeking out answers in questions in need of a solution. I am thankful for being selected by the American Society of Laser Surgery and Medicine (ASLMS) for this award and I am excited to continue to contribute to the society through service and research contributions."

Dr. Jagdeo will receive his award and deliver his presentation, "Guiding Light - the Start of a Journey,” during the Plenary Session on April 24, 2015 at the ASLMS Annual Conference in Kissimmee, Florida.

Dr. Jagdeo earned his Masters of Science in Pathobiology with a focus on Oxidative Stress skin injury pertaining to Aging and Cancer from Brown Graduate School, and a Doctorate in Medicine from Brown Medical School. Dr. Jagdeo completed his Howard Hughes Medical Institute-National Institutes of Health Research Scholar fellowship studying Photobiology and DNA Repair at the NIH in Bethesda, Maryland.  Dr. Jagdeo then completed a residency in Dermatology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center and during residency received additional training in lasers and photobiology through several preceptorships and mentorships.

As a faculty member at the University of California-Davis and Sacramento VA Medical Center, Dr. Jagdeo has received several awards and honors, including the NIH-UC Davis CTSC K12 Mentored Career Development  Award for translational study of light emitting diode (LED)-generated visible light for the treatment of skin scarring and fibrotic disease, NIH-UC Davis CTSC Highly Innovative Award for new technology and approaches for increasing ablative laser patient safety and optimizing patient treatment outcomes, and the Department of Veterans Affairs Special Contribution Award: For Commitment to Outstanding Patient Care.
