American Laser Society Announces New Leadership
Wausau, WI – The American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery, Inc. (ASLMS) has elected new leaders for the positions of Vice President and Board Representatives. Elected leaders were notified on March 5 and will serve for one year.
Robert A. Weiss, M.D. will serve as Vice President, James W. Tunnell, Ph.D. as Board Representative – Basic Science, Gerald J. Wilmink, Ph.D., M.B.A. as Board Representative – Basic Science, Craig A. Drill as Board Representative – Industrial/R&D, Dieter Manstein, M.D. as Board Representative – Laser Medicine, Patricia A. Owens, R.N., M.H.A., C.M.L.S.O. as Board Representative – Laser Safety, and Thomas E. Rohrer, M.D. as Board Representative – Laser Surgery.
“ASLMS is a Society devoted to broadcasting the latest information on state-of-the-art technology. I have enjoyed teaching for many years and now it is truly an honor to be elected as Vice President. I will work diligently to continue to improve the status, respect and financial well-being of the Society and follow the footsteps of all the great laser physicians who have previously served to teach and lead ASLMS. I look forward to the ASLMS Annual Conference each year to hear about the latest research into new technology and [am] really looking forward to being in Boston where much of the latest research is performed in both academics and industry,” said Dr. Weiss. He practices cosmetic dermatology and phlebology at the Maryland Laser, Skin and Vein Institute where numerous clinical trials on new lasers and pharmaceuticals are conducted.
Candidates were first nominated by the general membership after which they were approved for nomination by the Nominating Committee which included Chair, Brian D. Zelickson, M.D., Roy G. Geronemus, M.D., Richard E. Fitzpatrick, M.D., Gerald N. Goldberg, M.D., Laurie Grizzard, R.N., Bernard Choi, Ph.D., and Petra E. Wilder-Smith, D.D.S., Ph.D.
Election winners received the majority of votes where a quorum consisted of three percent of the total voting membership of the Society.
